History

Fábio Baldo is a Brazilian director and writer. His first feature film Time Was Endless (2016) had its premiere at the 66th Berlin International Film Festival (Panorama). He has directed the award-winner short films Caos (2010), Da Origem (2011), Geru (2014) and The Fantastic Garden (2020) selected by important international film festivals such as Clermont-Ferrand, Oberhausen, Kiev-Molodist, Moscow, Bilbao-Zinebi, Montreal and Guadalajara. In 2015, the Cinémathèque Française in Paris held a retrospective of his films within the session Cinéma de Poche.

Time Was Endless

In search of a new life, Anderson has left his Tikuna community in the Amazon forest for the bustling metropolis of Manaus. There he lives on the outskirts of the city with his sister and her sick child in a barren single room, and supports them through working various jobs. The environment is far from welcoming, but Anderson is driven by a burgeoning awareness of his two-spirited sexuality, which he feels can only be realized in the anonymity of the city. Anderson finds himself in limbo, questioning and rejecting certain tribal rituals, even as he fiercely defends his community and seeks to find peace with his identity.

Jonathas lives with his parents and his brother, Juliano, in a cottage in a rural area of the Amazon. They meet Milly, a visitor from Ukraine, and the native Kedassere. The group decides to spend the weekend at a campground in the jungle. Against his father's wishes, Jonathas will embark on this adventure. Seduced by Milly and the forest, he undertakes his most transforming journey.
