Ghost Ship Part 2 (1957)

Una banda de forajidos atemorizan a los habitantes de un pequeño pueblo, saqueándolos periódicamente sin piedad. Para repeler estos ataques, los aldeanos deciden contratar a mercenarios. Japón, mediados del siglo XIX. Seibei Iguchi es un samurái de bajo rango que trabaja como burócrata. Viudo, vive con sus dos hijas, a las que adora, y con una madre ya senil, por lo que se ve obligado a hacer otros trabajos para poder sacarlas adelante. Una nueva oportunidad se presenta en su vida cuando se entera de que Tomoe, su amor de siempre, se ha divorciado de su cruel marido. Sin embargo, el rígido código de honor de los samuráis lo atará de pies y manos.

Yamada cierra su trilogía sobre samurais con esta historia acerca de un fuerte servidor del Shogun que pierde la vista en una misión. Su mujer, por la que siente devoción, se sacrifica para salvar su honor. Ahora el samurái promete venganza por su amor perdido y por su honor como guerrero.

Durante los tres años siguientes fallece la madre de Munezo, Samon se casa con la hermana de Munezo, y Kie se casa con el hijo de una familia acomodada de mercaderes, los Iseya.

La historia narra las aventuras de un grupo de samuráis liderados por Igo Gyobu (Ken Ogata), que luchan por defender al heredero del Shogun de su propio padre Iemitsu. Los motivos que le llevan a buscar la muerte de su hijo forman parte de su locura y excentricismo, considerándole demasiado débil para su sucesión. Librarse de él con tan poderosa protección solo será posible tendiéndoles una trampa en su viaje a Edo.

La película se centra en la trágica historia de Gonza, un guapo mujeriego que vive en el período de Tokagawa, momento histórico en el que las apariencias son muy importantes. Gonza compite con Bannojo por el honor de realizar la ceremonia del té con motivo de la celebración del nacimiento del heredero del jefe de su clan.

An abandoned temple in the mountains outside of the old capital city of Kyoto is the scene of a fated meeting between a traveling priest, two women, and a vicious killer.
