Derek Jarman's film portrait of American writer William S. Burroughs was shot in September 1982 during his first visit to England to attend the legendary Final Academy events at the South London Ritzy Cinema. These were Burroughs-themed art and performance nights curated by Psychic TV. Jarman’s film shows Burroughs on Tottenham Court Road signing autographs with fans and inside a shop buying alcohol. The industrial soundtrack by Psychic TV features a sample of Burroughs repeating "boys, school showers and swimming pools full of 'em'". Additional footage shot by Jarman during Burroughs' visit is reported to have been confiscated by Scotland Yard in 1991 and remains lost. Jarman and Psychic TV would continue to collaborate (“magic bound us together” Jarman wrote), with Jarman directing the music video for Catalan and staring as the spokesperson in the Psychic TV video A Spokesman for the Temple of Psychick Youth.

This film was reconstructed and completed in 1995 by Javier Codesal for the Filmoteca de Andalucia, from the montage and the sound that Val del Omar had outlined before his death, after having returned to a project abandoned twenty years before with the incorporation of significant additions (above all in the soundtrack). Val del Omar's notes show that, as he typically did, he had other alternative titles in mind, such as "Acariño de la Terra Meiga" (Caress of the Magic Land), "Acariño a nosa terra" (Caress of Our Land), or "Barro de ánimas" (Clay of Souls), and that in the final phase of the unfinished project he wanted to add a second sound channel – following the diaphonic principle, and using electro-acoustic techniques – consisting of ambient material that he intended to record at the first screenings of the film in the very places and to the very people that were its origin: its "clay".

Porter, a quien se le atribuye en ocasiones la paternidad del cine de ficción, Porter trabajó en el estudio de Thomas Alva Edison, creando la que sería la primera película estadounidense importante. De 8 minutos de duración, "Asalto y robo de un tren" influyó de forma decisiva en el desarrollo del cine porque incluía innovaciones como el género escogido (western) y sobre todo el montaje de escenas filmadas en diferentes momentos y lugares para componer una unidad narrativa. Al hacer esto, Porter inició el montaje, uno de los fundamentos de la creación cinematográfica, proceso en el que diferentes fragmentos elegidos de las diversas tomas realizadas —o disponibles— se reúnen para conseguir un conjunto coherente.
