In the summer of 1993, a group of Bosnian refugees flee to Sweden due to the war in Bosnia. The Swedish Red Cross places refugees in a pavilion for migrants. Among them is the middle-aged married couple, Dervish and Adem. Dervish meets the Swede Ingrid in the pavilion and despite the language barrier, the two become good friends. Alen es un chico de 13 años, interno en un orfanato de Sarajevo. Sus padres, periodistas extranjeros, se conocieron durante la guerra de Bosnia, abandonándolo. Su sueño es ahorrar dinero, escapar del centro e ir a buscar a su madre, pero no tiene acceso al archivo para saber el paradero de su madre francesa. Su única esperanza es Sento, un tendero del barrio que utiliza a los niños del centro para robar y traficar.
