Twelve-year old Kosta, a little boy of an overactive imagination, makes friends with equally sensitive eleven-year old Blanka. Fantasy leads the two children to the forgotten attic in the house of Blanka's parents. For them, this is the forbidden "thirteenth chamber," and to Kosta, an old glass vase becomes a magic ball with the help of which he can play his favorite play "on fate". The children observe the adults and unconsciously sense that something has gone wrong in Blanka's family. Her dad is a physician and her mother is not happy with him, still recollecting her former wooer Petr who left for India upon his graduation.

Las vacaciones junto al río son agradables y la pandilla de niños a la que pertenece Jirina las disfruta debidamente. Jirina es cortejada por Roman, pero ella está más interesada en Franta de la orilla opuesta del río. Franta invita a la niña a su cabaña, pero cuando el joven más experimentado quiere besarla, Jirina se escapa. Al mismo tiempo, se entera para su pesar de que Franta todavía está saliendo con su amor de las vacaciones del año pasado, Bláza.

Schorm examined a girl's problems of being giving too much. She tries to buy the goodwill of her less fortunate friends; her intentions are pure, but in the difficulty of communicating she learns envy and deceit, and must decide if she will submit to double dealing or steel her life against self-deception and mediocrity. In addition to the relationship between the girl and her friends, Schorm introduces a teenage romance and the broader relationship between the girl's parents - neatly tied together with segments of Weber's opera "Der Freischütz". He reveals himself as a skilled psychological director with a wide range of knowledge about people.

A group of jolly young people work in the Prague Tesla factory, also spending most of their leisure time together. One of them, guitar player Zdenek, begins to shun his friends' company. He has fallen in love with Vera, who does not belong to the group. The happy-go-lucky young man already has several acquaintances and has his own method to get a girl: to take his motorcycle, his guitar and a bottle of wine and take her to a rented houseboat. Vera, however, is different and gets angry at Zdenek. But she is fond of him and thus eventually spends a whole evening with him on the houseboat. At a preventative medical examination, the doctor tells Vera she is pregnant.

El astronauta Toni aterriza en la Luna y tras desmayarse cae en una profunda ensoñación. En su particular alucinación, el viajero estelar se encuentra con míticos visitantes de la Luna como Cyrano de Bergerac, Nicholas, Barbican, Michael Ardan y el barón Münchhausen. Se toman unas copas y el barón, tomando a Toni por habitante lunar, decide llevarlo a la Tierra para que conozca cómo viven los seres humanos. Aterrizan en Constantinopla, donde Blanca, una princesa del harén, se fija en Toni, a quien le pide que la libere. El barón le ayuda entonces a raptarla mediante sutiles métodos como pasarse por la espada a medio ejército aprovechando un apagón. Entonces huyen a caballo y se embarcan en un velero que se ve inmerso en una emboscada de la inmensa armada turca. De nuevo, el ingenio del barón los saca del atolladero y huyen en botes, pero son tragados por una ballena en la cual recorren medio mundo...

Este filme está basado en la novela 'Face au Drapeau', que Jules Verne escribió en 1896. Combinando collage, animación fotograma a fotograma, falsas perspectivas, decorados, miniaturas y sobreimpresiones, Zeman construyó planos de un barroquismo hipnótico que, en una película como Una invención diabólica, dotaron de vida los aguafuertes elaborados por Benette y Riou para los libros de Julio Verne editados por Pierre-Jules Hetzel.
