Año 2004. Nenad, de 10 años, es el único alumno de su clase. El pequeño lee una redacción sobre su abuelo Voja, su único amigo, que se está muriendo. Más que un difícil momento familiar, esta situación conlleva otra de naturaleza política y religiosa: hay que dar los últimos sacramentos al abuelo con un cura ortodoxo y enterrarlo en un cementerio situado en territorio "enemigo". Y es que la familia vive en un enclave serbio cristiano en medio de una gran comunidad albanesa musulmana en unas condiciones difíciles marcadas por los trayectos en vehículos blindados bajo la protección de la comunidad internacional, los cortes de electricidad, los robos de ganado y los desplazamientos por el enclave serbio en carros de caballos.

Luka Banjanin is an unemployed young man living with his parents in Belgrade. He hangs out with few devoted friends who, like him, are yet to find place in a society that discarded young intellectuals. He plays saxophone and dreams about going to Oktoberfest, the annual beer festival in Munich, but he's being unable to get passport because of a smaller drug incident he had in the past. Totally careless about his long-term girlfriend, he suddenly falls for a mysterious woman who seems to appear in the same places as him, and then vanishes as quickly as possible. Believing that he's at the wrong place at the wrong time, Luka wanders from one misadventure to another, gradually losing the contact with reality and living out his own Oktoberfest in his mind.

The drama is about several prominent people of Serbian culture and art. Milan Savic, a well-known doctor from Novi Sad and writer from the turn of 20th century, feels a personal obligation to take care and deprive his friends of existential worries.
After graduation, a young woman gets his first job in the women's prison in the province. The story follows her struggle to survive in a small town with her small child, alcohol addiction, and the battle with the prisoners and prison brutality and other schemers who wanted to remove her from working spot.
