Three brothers leave their home to see the world. During their journey, young men as by miracle enter into famous fairy tales (Little Riding Hood, Sleeping Beauty, Twelve Months) and face traps, unexpected moments and even love in a story full of humor and songs.

Romi (Gabriela Mícová), a prostitute, is anything but successful at her job: she is of far too gentle a nature for her clients. The more obstinately she is pushed to the streets by her pimp Franz (Stanislav Majer), the closer she is to a complete breakdown. One day Romi is addressed by a property speculator referring to himself as a "wealthy Jew" (Martin Finger). He does not demand any sexual services of her. He satisfies himself with Romi telling him stories, for which he lavishly rewards her. However, no one shares the sudden happiness with Romi. Her work-mates and current clients turn their backs on her, as does Franz, with whom Romi is in love. The whole story takes place in the setting of a dilapidated city, during the clean-up of which politicians openly split their profit with speculators and lobbyists, all under protection from the police.

Marital fidelity can wear you down, and Ondra and Vitek are certainly suffering from a case of serious fatigue. Working side by side and living next door to each other, it doesn't take long before these two long-married middle-aged pals start comparing sex notes, and it's plain to see their latest scores have fallen far below what they would have hoped. Luckily, a surprise holiday on a tropical island rekindles their interest in their wives - only they don't exacly lust after their designated partners. With no one to divert their attention, their roaming eyes inevitably settle on the wrong spouse, and pretty soon they've established their own little Holy Quaternity.

Fogi is enjoying his never ending puberty. But simultaneously Fogi is also trying to live up to his family duties and bring up Véna, his son from the first marriage. He did not get married again but lives with Jana, a post office employee. Together they have little Anicka and they all live in a flat in a small town. At first, Jana is trying to tolerate Fogi's moods, but her patience is running out. Fogi loses his job. On top of that he starts to see himself in his adolescent son and realizes with horror that Véna repeats his own mistakes. The first fights, bans and mutual misunderstandings are approaching.

Joy Miller (Fran Drescher), una esteticista de Queens, es confundida con una profesora de ciencias por Grushinsky, el embajador de una nación del este de Europa. Grushinsky está de visita en EE.UU. en busca de una tutora para los hijos del dictador de su país. Joy, tras aceptar el empleo, viaja a Europa, donde conoce al malhumorado líder de Slovetzia, Boris Pochenko (Timothy Dalton).

El conflicto será tan sangriento que minará sus fuerzas y su moral. Una de las producciones más costosas del cine alemán de los últimos años, realizada con motivo del 50º aniversario de la conocida batalla. Su director, Joseph Vilsmaier ("Leche de otoño"), realiza un análisis psicológico de los cuatro soldados protagonistas. Todo sirve a Vilsmaier para denunciar la crueldad de la guerra. A destacar también las escenas de batalla, sin duda las más crudas de la historia del género hasta que llegó "Salvar al soldado Ryan".
