身の回りで次々と起こる不可解な現象。これは、ただのホラー映画ではない。「ブラック・スワン」や「インセプション」のように手に汗握る…ホラーコメディ映画。

ガラス窓を破るほどの嵐の翌日、スーパーへ買い出しに出掛けたデヴィッド。軍人やパトカーが慌ただしく街を往来し、あっという間に店の外は濃い霧に覆われた。設備点検のために外に出た店員のジムが不気味な物体に襲われると、店内の人々は次第に理性を失いはじめる。

ブルース・ノーランは、ニューヨーク州バッファローのローカル・テレビ局に勤めるレポーター。アンカーマンの座を目指す彼だったが、それをライバルのエヴァンに奪われ、ショックの余り放送禁止用語を口走ってクビになってしまう。さらにギャングから袋叩きにされ、同棲中の恋人グレースにも不満をぶつける始末。どん底に突き落とされたブルースのポケベルに、翌朝不思議な呼び出しが。彼を待っていたのは、清掃服姿の神だった。神はブルースに自分の役割を譲り、ブルースは全能の力を身につける。
