独裁国家となった未来のイギリス。TV局で働くイヴィーは外出禁止時間帯の夜に秘密警察に見つかり、絶体絶命の危機に見舞われたところを、"V"とだけ名乗る仮面の男に命を救われる。しかし、"V"と名乗るその男は、国家を相手にひとりテロ活動を続け、クラシック音楽の調べにあわせて街を爆破、TV局を不法占拠し、政府要人を暗殺していく、正体不明、経歴不詳、善か悪かの判別不能の男だった。1605年に国王の圧制に反発し国家転覆を図り失敗に終わったガイ・フォークスにならって、イギリスの反逆精神の象徴となったその日、11月5日-ガイ・フォークス・デイ-に、国民の決起を呼びかける"V"。正義か、犯罪か。"V"とは一体何者なのか？"V"と出会い、自分自身についての真実をも知るようになったイヴィーは、図らずも"V"の協力者となり、自由と正義を取り戻す革命のために立ち上がったー。
ヘンリー・ヒル、1943年ブルックリン生まれ。大物ギャング、ポーリーのアジトで育った彼は、物心ついた頃からマフィアに憧れていた。やがて念願の"グッドフェローズ"の仲間となり、"強奪"専門のジミー、野心旺盛なチンピラ、トミーと共に犯罪に犯罪を重ねていく。が、麻薬に手を出したことから育ての親、ポーリーに見放され、さらにジミーたちが起こした600万ドル強奪事件を追うCIAの捜査の手もヘンリーに迫る。
町の誕生100周年記念祭に沸き立つ小さな港町アントニオ・ベイ。だが、突如現れた濃霧が街を覆い、それに呼応するように、殺害直後にもかかわらず遺体が腐敗するという謎の殺人事件が発生する。100年前に町を作り上げたとして称えられた4人の功労者は、契約のために訪れた富豪の乗った船を座礁させ、乗組員もろとも皆殺しにして船に積んであった多額の財産を奪っていたのだった。殺害された富豪たちは怨霊となり、100年の時を越えて霧とともに襲来し、4人の功労者の子孫たちへ復讐を開始したのであった。功労者の一人を曾祖父に持つ地元ラジオ局のDJ、スティービーは真相を知り、100年周年記念祭で惨事が起きることを防ぐため避難を呼びかけるが、霧は既に町の大半を覆い始めていた。

定年退職間近の刑事サマセットと新人のミルズは、ある殺人現場に向かう。そこには肥満の大男の凄惨な死体があった。またほどなくして、今度はビジネスマンの死体が発見される。サマセットはそれぞれの現場に残されていた文字から、犯人がキリスト教における七つの大罪(傲慢・嫉妬・憤怒・怠惰・強欲・暴食・色欲)に因んだ殺人に及んでいると分析、残るは5件となった。事件を未然に防ごうと犯人の特定を急ぐ2人。やがて一人の男が容疑者に浮上、しかし接近するも取り逃がし、さらなる犠牲者を出してしまう。そんな中、大罪に沿った犯行が残り2件となったところで、犯人を名乗る男が自首して来るのだが…。

由緒ある英国バッキンガム宮殿である日、大事件が。王室諸氏の記念撮影中、落雷で全員が感電死してしまったのだ。慌てた英国は、急いで王の後釜を据えるのだが、それは偶然抜擢されたアメリカの観光客で、彼は単なる品のないピアノ弾きだった……。珍妙な王位据え替えを軸に展開するコメディで、監督は「スティング」「ミラグロ／奇跡の地」等の脚本、「メジャーリーグ」の監督として名高いＤ・Ｓ・ウォード。Ｊ・グッドマンのキャラクターに頼りすぎたせいか、少しアイディア倒れの感があるが、気楽に見る分には良い。脇役にＰ・オトゥール、Ｊ・ハートといった曲者が並んでおり、こちらの怪演は楽しめる。
