Akerbeltz: The Witches and the Inquisitor (2012)

　「ブレイド２」「ヘルボーイ」のギレルモ・デル・トロ監督が「デビルズ・バックボーン」に続いて再びスペイン内戦を背景に描く哀切のダーク・ファンタジー。再婚した母に連れられ、山中でレジスタンス掃討の指揮をとる冷酷な義父のもとへとやって来た空想好きの少女は、やがて残酷な現実世界から逃避し森の中の不思議な迷宮へと迷い込んでいくが…。イマジネーションあふれるヴィジュアルと深いテーマ性が高く評価され、いわゆるジャンル映画でありながら数々の映画賞を席巻する活躍で大きな注目を集めた話題作。 　1944年のスペイン。内戦終結後もフランコ政権の圧政に反発する人々がゲリラ闘争を繰り広げる山間部。内戦で父を亡くした少女オフェリアは、臨月の母カルメンと共にこの山奥へとやって来る。この地でゲリラの鎮圧にあたるビダル将軍と母が再婚したのだった。冷酷で残忍な義父に恐怖と憎しみを募らせるオフェリア。その夜、彼女は昆虫の姿をした不思議な妖精に導かれ、謎めいた迷宮へと足を踏み入れる。そこでオフェリアを出迎えたパン＜牧神＞は、彼女が地底の魔法の国のプリンセスの生まれ変わりで、満月の夜までに３つの試練を乗り越えれば、魔法の国に帰ることが出来ると告げる。オフェリアはその言葉を信じて、与えられた３つの試練に立ち向かう決意を固めるのだったが…。

A small village in Huelva, Andalusia, Spain, 1936. Higinio and Rosa have been married only for a few months when the Civil War breaks out. Higinio, being afraid of possible reprisals from the rebel faction, decides to use a hole dug in his own house as a temporary hideout.

4世紀、ローマ帝国末期のエジプト、アレクサンドリア。宗教をめぐる市民の対立から街が荒廃する中、類まれなる美貌と明晰な頭脳を持った女性天文学者ヒュパティア（レイチェル・ワイズ）は、分け隔てなく弟子たちを受け入れ、講義を行なっていた。彼女は訴える。「世の中で何が起きようと、私たちは兄弟です。」生徒でもあり、後にアレクサンドリアの長官となるオレステス（オスカー・アイザック）、そして奴隷ダオス（マックス・ミンゲラ）は密かに彼女に想いを寄せていた。やがて、科学を否定するキリスト教徒たちと、それを拒絶する学者たちの間で、激しい対立が勃発。戦いの最中、キリスト教指導者は知る。この都市の有力者たちに多大な影響を与えているのは、ヒュパティアだということに。そして攻撃の矛先は、彼女に向けられたのだった―。

三国時代の中国。漢の丞相の曹操（のちの魏の礎を築いた）は、北部を平定した後、南部も制圧するために兵を進める。その目的は、天下統一に邪魔な劉備・孫権の抹殺だけでなく、今は周瑜の妻となった天下一の美人小喬の奪取にもあった。荊州にいた劉備軍は南下して軍を立て直そうとするが、途中の当陽県長坂にて追いつかれ、敗走する。 夏口へ逃げた劉備は、部下の諸葛亮（孔明）の提案に従い、孔明を孫権（のちに呉を建国）のもとへ派遣する。孔明は孫権の総司令である周瑜と意気投合し、2つの勢力は共に曹操と戦う同盟を結ぶ。孫権は数万の軍勢を派遣し、劉備軍とともに長江の赤壁付近で曹操軍と相対し、両者互いに決戦のために水軍と陸軍を動かすのだった。

11世紀のスペインに実在した若き武将、エル・シド。激しい宗教争い、そして政権争いのなか一時は国家追放になるが、祖国を救うため彼は立ち上がる。圧倒的スケールで描かれる一大史劇。出演はチャールトン・ヘストン、ソフィア・ローレンら。

スペインが最後の植民地、フィリピンを手放す中、現地の駐留部隊は反乱軍との戦いを余儀なくされる。過酷で、時として異様な戦いは長引き、兵達は疲弊してゆく。
