This film documents the journey of actress Jane Fonda and her husband – future California state senator Tom Hayden – through North and South Viet Nam in 1974. They travel from villages to towns talking with ordinary Vietnamese about their lives and the effects of the war on their lives, families, and communities.

The plot of the film revolves around a young girl searching for her father, a soldier in the PAVN, after her mother and sister are killed during Christmas Bombings. The film makes significant use of visual imagery and depicts war-time life in Hanoi under the aegis of the most intense sustained bombing campaign during the war.

17th Parallel, Nights and Days is a 1973 Vietnamese drama film directed by Hai Ninh. It was entered into the 8th Moscow International Film Festival where Tra Giang won the award for Best Actress.

Considered a masterpiece of Vietnamese cinema, Pham Ky Nam’s enduring classic, MS. TU HAU, is a product of the countries fledgling film industry which took rise during the war years. MS. TU HAU tells the story, as the narrator explains, of a “simple but exciting life of a genuine South woman.” Not so simple really, but exciting nonetheless. Tu Hau is a common woman from a fishing village whose husband has gone away to fight in the revolution. She takes care of her young daughter as well as her aging father-in-law. Soon, her peaceful village is attacked. From there a series of tragic events would befall Tu Hau. Each one would challenge her will. She survives so she can continue to raise her child. As a midwife, she puts aside her own grief to assist in a neighbor’s childbirth. Eventually her hardships drive her to join the resistance and ultimately makes the difficult sacrifice of leaving her child behind so she can help lead the front.

Standing Before the Sea tells about the conflicts between the new and the old as the country stands on the threshold of a great change. From the conflicts between children and adults between director Ba Duc (Truong Khoi) and chief accountant Chin Tam (Tra Giang), the film takes viewers back to a time when people dedicated to the country stood in front of them, making big choices and having to deal with the stagnation and obstacles of the old. The film by director Tran Phuong was produced in 1990 with the participation of actors Trong Khoi, Thuong Tin, and Tra Giang.
