50년대 로큰롤 스타 제리 리 루이스의 일대기를 다룬 전기영화. 백인이면서 어려서부터 흑인음악에 관심이 많았던 제리 리 루이스는 경쾌하다 못해 시끄러울 만큼 열정적으로 피아노를 두드리며 노래했던 초기 로큰롤의 스타다. 육체적 리듬과 쾌락에 충실한 록음악을 악마의 음악으로 간주했던 50년대에 전성기를 구가한 그의 음악과 삶을 경쾌한 리듬으로 잡아냈다. 가수 이승환이 그를 소재로 (제리 제리 고고)란 노래를 부르기도 했는데, 가사에도 "불타는 피아노"가 나오지만 연주 후 피아노에 불을 지른 사건은 유명하다. 미성년자인 사촌 마이라와의 결혼으로 언론의 비난을 사고 음악적으로 몰락하기까지 흥망성쇠를 카메라에 담았다. 의자에서 일어나 피아노 앞에서 구르고 뛰면서 미친 듯이 연주하는 루이스로 분한 데니스 퀘이드의 연기는 손색이 없고, 루이스의 히트곡과 초기 로큰롤 사운드는 어깨를 들썩이며 향수를 자극한다.
