Muzaffer Özdemir

A cab driver, a teahouse owner and an out-of-work journalist live in a down-at-heel suburb of Ankara. When the driver tells his friends tales of the murky and unlawful dealings of his passengers, they install a camera to record the passengers.

This is the directorial debut of Muzaffer Ozdemir, Palme d'Or awarded actor of Uzak / Distant (2002) by Nuri Bilge Ceylan, and also an actor in the Ceylan films Kasaba / The Small Town (1997) and Clouds of May (1999). Dogan, a pessimistic and neurotic architect, falls ill while camping with his friends nearby Istanbul. His doctor advises traveling. Longing for his homeland, Dogan sets off on a short break to the town of his childhood, whence he did not have the opportunity to visit since years. But not even the countryside has escaped the homogenizing concrete web cast by the modern technological age and liberal mentality inimical to the Earth.

중년의 사진작가 마흐무트는 아내와 헤어진 후 섹스 파트너인 정부와 외로움을 달래며 하루하루 공허한 삶 속에 희망을 상실한 채 살아간다. 그런 어는 날 일자리를 찾아 고향에서 올라온 사촌동생 유스프의 등장과 함께 두 사람의 사생활은 방해받기 시작한다. 점점 짐이 돼가는 유스프와 섹스파트너인 정부까지 다른 사내에 게 빼앗긴 마흐무트. 일 자리를 찾는 것 보다 도시 여자들의 뒤꽁무니를 쫓기 바뿐 철없는 실업자 유스프. 마흐무트는 결국 유스프를 시계 도둑으로 몰아세우는데....

젊은 영화감독 "무자페르"는 한가로운 전원의 매력을 영화에 담기 위해 자신이 자란 고향의 작은 마을로 돌아와 아버지에게 자신의 영화에 출연할 것을 권한다. 그러나 그의 아버지인 "에민"은 이런 아들의 계획에 함께 할 여유가 없다. 그는 정부에 압류당할 위기에 처한 땅과 수목을 지키기에 급급하고, 마을 사람들 역시 여유있게 영화에 출연 하기엔 현실의 문제가 너무나도 절박한 상황이다. 그러나 이런 사람들의 비협조에도 굴하지 않고 무자페르는 가족과 친구, 어린 조카 "알리"까지 영화에 출연시키기 시작한다. 알리는 40일 간 달걀을 깨뜨리지 않고 주머니 속에 가지고 다니게 되며, 아버지에게 음악 시계를 사주도록 설득해 주겠다는 고모의 약속을 굳게 믿고 있다. 또한 무자페르는 대입 시험에 실패한 사촌 "사펫"도 영화 촬영장으로 불러들인다. 사펫은 계속되는 불운 때문에 실패만 맛보는 젊은이다. 드디어 촬영이 시작되고 무자페르의 상상력은 다른 무엇보다도 우선한다.

터키의 작은 마을의 여름밤. 가족들은 농장의 모닥불아래 모여앉아 저마다의 이야기를 시작한다. 마을을 벗어나고 싶어하는 사촌, 터키의 옛 영광을 이야기하는 아버지, 2차대전에서 살아 돌아온 할아버지, 돌아오지 않는 삼촌. 아이들은 자장가 삼아 그 이야기를 들으며 그들이 뛰어 노는 숲과 들에 대한 향수를 느낀다.
