사라는 아빠와 계모 그리고 이복동생인 토비와 함께 사는 소녀이다. 부모가 외출할 때마다 토비를 돌봐야하는 사라는 어느날 밤, 토비가 울어대자 이야기책에 나오는 대로 고블린의 주문을 외우면서 고블린의 왕에게 토비를 데려가버리라고 빈다. 그 순간 고블린의 왕인 자레드가 나타나 토비를 데려가면서 토비를 찾으려면 미로 중앙의 고블린성으로 오라는 말을 남긴다. 사라는 토비를 되찾기 위해 지하세계의 미로속으로 들어가고 도중에 호글이라는 난쟁이, 루도라는 덩치 큰 원숭이, 그리고 용감한 강아지 기사 디디머스 등과 친구가 된다. 자레드의 끊임없는 방해를 이기면서 드디어 고블린성에 도착한 사라는 자레드가 정한 시간이 지나기 직전 고블린의 주문으로 토비를 되찾아 집으로 돌아온다. 토비를 귀찮아하기만 했던 사라는 미로 여행을 통해 동생에 대한 사랑과 과거의 추억에 있었던 장난감과 이야기 주인공들의 소중함을 새삼 깨닫게 된다.

As Radetzky plays the piano in a trance-like state, the story moves back in time to war-torn Warsaw. During an air-raid, Radetzky meets American journalist Carole, and there is a mutual attraction. Following the fall of Poland, Radetzky and Irish pilot, Mike, escape to Rumania and then on to America. Radetzky continues his musical career in America and meets up again with Carole.
