Sinopse
Na Inglaterra, em plena Idade Média, um monge quebra seu voto de castidade e é alvo da ira do bispo local. Tomado por culpa e remorso, ele foge e, na estrada, testemunha o assassinato de um ator, integrante de uma trupe ambulante. O monge passa a ocupar o lugar da vítima, e o grupo continua viajando de cidade em cidade. Até chegar a um vilarejo no qual uma mulher surda-muda está sendo acusada de bruxaria e é condenada pela morte de um jovem. Ao decidirem encenar o crime, os atores descobrem que a jovem é inocente. Chegou a hora de o monge se redimir de seus pecados através do próprio sacrifício. Com um clima sombrio e uma história forte, o filme promete segurar a tensão do começo ao fim, além de contar com boas atuações de seu elenco de respeito, que inclui Willem Dafoe e Paul Bettany nos papéis principais.
