Adaptado de um conto de Abel Botelho, "Mulheres da Beira" foi o primeiro filme de Rino Lupo para a Invicta. Com exteriores filmados na região de Arouca, o filme destaca-se pela força realista das imagens, numa história rural de excessos melodramáticos em que se destaca a fotogenia e a intensidade de Brunilde Júdice no papel principal. As duas principais novidades deste restauro são relativas às cores - é a primeira cópia restaurada com as tintagens e viragens originais (até aqui, as preservações foram sempre a preto e branco) - e à montagem, permitindo apresentar agora uma versão mais aproximada da cópia estreada em 1923 (foram incluídos cinco planos novos e foi reposta a ordem narrativa de todo o material existente).

Simão loves Teresa whose father wants her to marry cousin Baltazar instead. The two lovers meet secretly; Baltazar pays a thug to kill his rival, and Simão is badly wounded. Teresa is forced into a convent. Mariana - who secretly loves Simão - treats him, and helps him to escape. SPOILERS AHEAD Baltazar intervenes, and this time the two rivals fight, and one of them dies. The love story will end tragically to the survivors. Simão is sentenced to prison in India - which amounts to a death sentence. Mariana goes with him, but neither will survive the voyage. Teresa dies in her convent, after receiving a last love letter from Simão.
