Baseado no romance de António Lobo Antunes, são reunidas um conjuntos de cartas de um jovem soldado, médico e aspirante a escritor, que foram enviadas para sua esposa de Angola entre os anos de 1971 e 1973, durante a Guerra Colonial Portuguesa, um confronto de Portugal com antigas províncias ultramarinas.
