Ao final da década de 1930, em algum país da América Latina, o presidente e líder socialista Emilio García é deposto por um golpe cívico-militar. Nesse contexto Estanislao, um jovem trabalhador ferroviário, e Lisandro, um senhor que já perdeu toda a esperança, encontram-se em uma estação de trem onde terão um enriquecedor diálogo sobre a situação que sua república está passando.
