A história começa quando um avião, com destino a Lisboa, é desviado para o aeroporto de Beja por causa de um grande nevão na capital portuguesa. Assim, os passageiros não vão poder passar a véspera de Natal com as famílias... e terão de passar a noite juntos nesse local.

Próximo de um neo-realismo onírico, Rio Turvo parte do conto homónimo de Branquinho da Fonseca, onde se acompanha a história de um amor impossível entre um topógrafo anónimo, recém-chegado ao terreno pantanoso onde deverá construir-se um aeroporto – provavelmente, passe o anacronismo ficcional, sublinhando-se o sincronismo histórico, o tão discutido aeroporto da Ota –, e a bela flor do pântano. As intervenções musicais dos operários de construção (os fados de Ricardo Ribeiro e de Manuel João Vieira, as guitarras dos Dead Combo e de José Pracana, a bossa nova do JP Simões e a voz de Teresa Salgueiro) pontuam, socraticamente, esta história de amor e acompanham narrativas paralelas de conspiração e suspeita. O pano de fundo são os medos e uma indiferença trespassante do presente, em que o protagonista tem de decidir se é homem ou macaco, cínico ou cobarde, avançando ao ritmo de um progressivo desprendimento da realidade até um final abrupto, irónico e amargo.

Gloria is set against the backdrop of a rural landscape slowly disappearing in modern Portugal. The small border town of Vila de Santiago, once a booming trade center for illegal trafficking, is about to become a ghost town, as a new motorway is to bypass the city and the railway station is being closed. Its stationmaster, Vincente, is preparing to retire. Many young people have moved out, leaving the children to be brought up by the elderly, including thirteen-year-old Glória and her friend Ivan. Glória's life suddenly changes with the arrival of Vincente's younger brother, Mauro, who has just come out of prison and has some old issues to settle. Mauro begins to charge around the station on his motorbike, while Glória's friendship with Ivan is put to test on account of her attraction to older Mauro.

When her mother dies, 40-year-old Helena now has time for herself after years of taking care of her family. She works at a film production company, dances boisterously, gets drunk. A quiet film about letting go morphs into a coming of middle age story.
