Em um prédio antigo, um homem e uma mulher se escutam através das paredes e logo começam um romance. Um casal de meia-idade se separa após 20 anos, mas tem dificuldade em seguir em frente. À medida que a narrativa se desenrola, surge uma imagem maior de apenas um casal —um casal em três etapas fundamentais da vida.
