O cantor português Luís Vidal desembarca no Rio de Janeiro, interessando-se por uma linda rapariga. Fotografa-a, mas apenas se distinguem as pernas da jovem, que Luís incumbe seu secretário, Camilo Pampanini, de 'identificar' na cidade... Trata-se da bailarina Natália Derval, com quem Luís vive um idílio, ameaçado por próxima digressão da jovem. Luís convençe-a a ilustrar com bailados as suas canções, o que não agrada a Camilo, congeminando por isso um plano de agitadas conseqüências.

Juliana, ambiciosa criada de Luísa, faz chantagem a propósito de umas cartas comprometedoras, o que leva Luísa a recear um escândalo. Basílio deixa Lisboa e Luísa de cabeça perdida pelas exigências sucessivas de Juliana, acaba por tombar de fatal enfermidade.
