No século X, durante uma revolta de camponeses, o rei, um terrível tirano, morre nos combates. Seu filho, um jovem príncipe, presencia tudo, além de ser gravemente ferido. A rainha, vendo o estado do filho, invoca o poder mágico de um dragão para salvá-lo, mas este só concorda em socorrê-lo dividindo o seu coração quando o príncipe jura que será bom e justo. No entanto, ele se torna um rei mais perverso que o pai e um jovem cavaleiro acredita que foi o coração do dragão que modificou o príncipe. Assim, decide eliminar todos os dragões, mas quando falta apenas um para ser morto o cavaleiro passa a ter uma visão real dos fatos.

Jeho nepřizpůsobivost místním poměrům a smysl pro etiku zvoleného povolání však příliš nevyhovuje ostatním už zaběhnutým kolegům. Zatímco ti se škodolibě baví jeho horlivostí a zodpovědností, Štěpán má stále větší problémy s nadřízenými, až je nakonec přesunut na všemi odmítané místo venkovského obvodního lékaře. V Bezdíkově však potkává novou, snad už trvalou a opětovanou lásku, s níž se posléze rozhodne žít a pracovat v severních Čechách. (oficiální text distributora)

The second full-length film of director Dusan Rapos. It was based on Eleonora Gasparova's novel of the same title. The director tells a story about the life and troubles of young people living in the city. The teenagers have to face real life, make their first major decisions, and learn that romance sometimes brings disappointment. The original Slovak music composed for the film by Vaso Patejdl contributed greatly to the film's atmosphere. It helped to make The Fountain for Suzanne a legendary picture of Slovak cinematography at the time.

The hero of the story that takes place at the beginning of the nineteenth century and recalls real historical personages is Akli Miklós, the court jester of Emperor Ferenc.
