Georges (Grégory Gadebois), teaches school in Montreal – he and wife Emma, (Monia Chokri) have just moved to the countryside. One day, he surprises a young intruder Zack, (Noah Parker), rummaging through his things.

A recent widow living in a small Quebec town goes to Montreal to visit her busy adult son and daughter, and then on a whim decides to travel to the town of her childhood, where she hadn't set foot in decades.

David happily brings his wife and new baby to his parents to celebrate his birthday. All goes well until the next day, when he finds that his mother – a filmmaker – has committed suicide. His second shock comes on the day of the funeral, when he is told that the man who raised him is not his biological father. Bewildered, he starts to look for answers and finds a hidden side of his mother’s life.

Through an immigrant cab driver, our world collides with a nervous filmmaker, a lawyer whose new breasts her ex-boyfriend wants to see, a mystery man, a gay man who might or might not have AIDS, and a birthday girl who got stood up. It is a mixture of laughter and sadness, all floating on a sea of philosophy.

This French-Canadian drama takes place just after JFK's assassination and provides insight into the psychological ramifications of that event with its portrayal of a love story between a confused teen and a travelling salesman in a Quebec railroad station. The date is Dec. 19, 1963 and train service has been delayed by a snow storm. Pierre-Paul is a door-to-door salesman. Chili is a despondent teenaged girl. When Pierre-Paul enters a washroom stall he is surprised to find a girl hunched over with a gun in her mouth. He runs to tell the stationmaster, but she has gone by the time they return. He tells the stationmaster that the girl was wearing a kilt. Unfortunately, the station is filled with other school girls dressed in the same outfit. Eventually Chili comes up to Pierre-Paul and a careful romance is initiated as she tells him over her troubled life.

During the long train ride from Montreal to Vancouver, a man and woman find themselves increasingly attracted to each other.

Alex has a deeply troubled mind. He also has a seriously dysfunctional - not to say incestuous - family. Why then, has he returned from his merchant seaman job to the rocky coasts of his home? Perhaps he couldn't cut manage to march in his father's footsteps in that job. His mother doesn't seem to mind, and lets him stay at her bed and breakfast hotel. All these people appear eager to get their hands on his body, but he's too wrapped up in what's going on inside his head to notice.

As the paramedics pry her hand apart from her dead lover's grip a woman's life flashes before her eyes. Racing to the hospital the stunning skies and rooftops of Montreal from the back of the ambulance are inter-cut with the most exquisitely cinematic memories.

Pierre is in love with two women and has a stable relationship with both of them. His wife, all by herself, makes him feel whole. However, he has the identical feeling with his librarian mistress and cannot understand why this arrangement shouldn't be satisfactory for everyone concerned.
