Документальный проект «Мастерская» состоит из двух фильмов. В первом идёт рассказ о создании А.Ю.Германом студии Первого и экспериментального фильма (ПиЭФ) в конце 80-ых годов прошлого века. О том, что тогда происходило в стране и на «Ленфильме», как вокруг яркой личности собиралась студийная команда, как искали таланты. Дебютанты студии – ныне известные режиссеры – поделятся воспоминаниями о помогавшем им на всех этапах работы мастере. Студия ПиЭФ не только снимала фильмы, но была и киношколой. Второй фильм посвящен собственно процессу набора, обучения студентов, их взаимодействию с мастером и педагогами, их первым шагам в профессии.Рассказ выпускника мастерской Сергея Карандашова, автора проекта «Мастерская», в центре этого фильма. Выпуск фильма приурочен к 80-летию со дня рождения А.Ю. Германа
