Мир Хартмута, пожилого водителя такси из Нюрнберга, рушится на части, когда его покидает жена. Мрачный и унылый он погружается в повседневную работу, из которой его вырывает неожиданное появление в машине не говорящей по-немецки 6-летней турецкой девочки Хайат, которая категорически отказывается покидать такси. Все попытки Хартмута избавиться от нее оказываются тщетными. Несмотря на то, что у него хватает своих проблем, он все же решает помочь ей найти свою мать. Но возможно не только он помогает Хайат, но и она ему.
