After she is killed in a wave of small town hysteria, Mercy Hawkins is resurrected by a mysterious healer who gives her the power to seek justice against her attackers.

A group of students from the Cosmo Academy are about to take their final exam: surviving for over fifty days in a derelict ship. But when they arrive, they discover that instead of ten students, there are eleven. One of them doesn't belong there...

The year is 1998, six years after the nuke wars reduced the world to rubble and a few bands of wandering survivors. One of these groups stumbles into an abandoned government research facility, where they were working on making the body capable of creating its own amino acids, thus obviating the need for food. They are then attacked by one of the leftover experiments and begin experiencing an attrition problem.

As more murders occur around town, Tommy learns that his new pet alien, who he names Trumpy, possesses telekinetic powers.
