The Victim (2006)

In order to avoid working in the red-light district of Bangkok, a Thai woman lives with an overweight expatriate. Their lives are uneventful and dull until a provincial mafia hitman arrives on the scene.

Troubled by recurring dreams about the ghost of a murdered woman, an engineering student connects his visions to a disturbing missing person case.

After learning the art of muay thai fighting from skilled masters, small town friends Piak and Phao move their passion to Bangkok, where they become active in underground activities that put what they've learned to the test. A pregnant woman is abandoned by her lover. A businessman charters a flight to Tibet to pick up a monk. On the way back, the plane is hijacked, and the monk ends up in a war zone where he has to convince the bandits to change their evil ways.

A big group of freshman students go out of town. On the journey, their bus has to cross a creaky old river bridge which is the only way to get to the center of a dark forest. When the bus is halfway across, the bridge collapses and the bus falls deep into the river more than 50 meters from the surface. Nearly all the students are killed. While animal hunting, Wittaya and Lokrai inadvertently offend Nang Ta-Kian, the guardian spirit of the forest, who then kills Lokrai. Vittaya is forced to take care of his friend's son, Tong Kam. As a young man, Tong Kam falls in love with Vittaya's daughter Porn but Vittaya prefers Trai, a civil engineer who came to their village to coordinate the building of a dam. When the dam was completed, the village flooded and Wittaya was tasked with clearing every tree, including a big Ta-Kian tree. Apichatpong Weerasethakul brought an appetite for experimen­tation to Thai cinema with his debut feature, an uncategorizable work that refracts documentary impressions of his homeland through the surrealist concept of the exquisite corpse game. Enlisting locals to contribute improvised narration to a simple tale, Apichatpong charts the collective construction of the fiction as each new encounter imbues it with unpredictable shades of fantasy and pathos.

The story began when “Sua Yai” the leader of the head Mafia in “Goodman Town” had a nightmare which foretold that the only remedy was to get married or else misfortune would befall upon him.

Until one day, when they meet by chance, the acquaintance they've made through the book begins to blossom and develop to love. They vow not to be apart from one another no matter what would come. There's a twist when Ten doesn't get his birthday present that Pao sends to him, but they still hold on to the vow that one day they'll be together forever.
