The film opens at a Rotary Club function to honor the recently retired Justice Jyotin Chatterjee. The judge has served the profession all his life with honor and spotless integrity. As he is about to retire, he recognizes there will now be a void in his life. His wife remarks to reporters that neither he nor she knows what he would do after he retires. Retired life is not easy for the aging judge. The younger generation is bolder and quicker than he was in his time.
After having completed his master's with honors, multi-millionaire Shekhar Verma decides to travel to Rambagh, Poona, to work incognito in his dad's friend's, Shankar Saxena's office. He gets the job, goes to rent a room with his childhood friend, Bhagwandas, and his wife, Leela, where he meets with a young woman named Seeta Mathur, who is their neighbor. Shekhar also gets to meet Shankar's daughter, Raadha. Then Shekhar's cover is blown when his dad, Raj Bahadur Verma, comes for a visit. It is here that both Shankar and Raj Bahadur will finalize Shekhar's marriage with Raadha. But is marriage what Shekhar is really after, especially with Raadha?
The film is set in a tea garden in Assam, where a British tea estate owner Berkeley (George Baker), he falls in love with Chameli (Binita Borgohain), is local girl who works in the tea estate. Subsequently, Berkeley marries Chameli, however later finds himself accused of her murder.
