'Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship 2: A New Era' was a bare-knuckle fighting event held by Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship on August 25, 2018 at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum in Biloxi, Mississippi, USA. This event featured the semi-final of a 8-Man Heavyweight Tournament. The inaugural Police Gazette Women's Featherweight champion, Bec Rawlings, was awarded this title by the Bare Knuckle Boxing Hall of Fame 3 days after her win over Alma Garcia at BKFC 1, making her fight with Britain Hart her first title defense.

Bellator 202: Budd vs. Nogueira took place on July 13, 2018 at the WinStar World Casino in Thackerville, Oklahoma. The event aired live in prime time on Paramount Network. Originally Stephanie Geltmacher was scheduled to face Deborah Kouzmin. However, on the week of the event Kouzmin announced that she was injured. Bellator could not find a replacement for Geltmacher in time for the event.

UFC on Fox: Johnson vs. Benavidez 2 (also known as UFC on Fox 9) was a mixed martial arts event held on December 14, 2013 at the Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento, California. It was the UFC's third visit to the venue, after UFC 65 and UFC 73.

The event will be the first UFC event broadcast on Fox Sports 1. The main event is expected to be contested between former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, Maurício Rua and Chael Sonnen. The bout was first linked to UFC 161, as Sonnen was briefly mentioned as a short notice replacement for Rua's original opponent Antônio Rogério Nogueira, who had bowed out of the bout with a back injury. Sonnen's status as a felon created travel issues to get into Canada, resulting in Rua being pulled from the event altogether.

UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez was originally expected to have his first title defense against Junior dos Santos at this event. However, on September 2, 2011, the UFC announced that fight would be moved to the inaugural UFC on Fox event. Vitor Belfort was briefly linked to a matchup with Cung Le at this event. However, Belfort was removed from the bout and replaced by Wanderlei Silva. Dana White announced that the winner of the main event between Rua and Henderson will likely be in line for a Light Heavyweight title shot.

K-1 World Grand Prix 2004 Final was a kickboxing event promoted by the K-1 organization. It was the twelfth K-1 World Grand Prix final, involving twelve of the world's best K-1 fighters (four being reservists) from eight countries, with all bouts fought under K-1 Rules (100 kg/156-220 lbs). The tournament qualifiers had almost all qualified via the K-1 World Grand Prix 2004 Final Elimination with the exception of Remy Bonjasky who was the reigning champion.

It was the tenth K-1 World Grand Prix final, involving ten of the world's top fighters (two being reservists), with all bouts fought under K-1 Rules (100 kg/156-220 lbs).
