A rhythmically captivating exploration of love and loss at the fin-de-siècle. An amorous relationship between two women abruptly cut short. Dissolving under the impact of the loss of her soul mate, the surviving lover is drawn into the depths of mid-winter forests, into spheres of the subconscious, initiated by unknown forces. There is no return. The stream-of-consciousness narration, a collage of poetic fragments, features words by 16th century lesbian poet Katherine Philips, 19th century fin de siècle poets Renée Vivien and Algernon Charles Swinburne whose agnostic, visionary poetry lend the film a hypnotic quality.

1654, Ottoman Empire, Greece. A Turkish Warrior arrives heavily wounded at a remote Christian female monastery and is nursed by Anthi, a young nun under the oath of silence. They fall in love against all odds. But Anthi is tormented by a dark secret. The two lovers escape in the nearby forest, where Anthi's secret is revealed.

A subhuman creature watches a girl from afar, deeply in love, and tries to woo her by sending a gift – a magic, semi-living mask. Alarmed at first, she soon enjoys the sensual powers of the mask, but rejects the creature when he reveals himself to her. With a broken heart, love turns to bitterness, and his gift’s powers become malicious.

Stan is a troubled child with a vivid imagination. He lives with his mother and sister near a mental hospital, which fills him with horror. His nasty older sister thinks Stan is a nuisance and threatens to kill him. When it becomes night, all the impressions come back in nightmares.
