Amagama ka Nokutela

Amagama ka Nokutela (which means Nokutela's words/names) is an independently produced experimental short film conceptualized by Asanda Sizani and directed by Zimisele Ngubane. The story follows the life journey of South African musician, teacher, Ohlange High School and Ilanga lase Natal newspaper co-founder, Nokutela Mdima-Dube who lived in Inanda, KwaZulu-Natal between 1873-1917. The multi-pronged project is produced by a collective of Black women. Amagama ka Nokutela premiered at the world renowned Zeitz MOCAA (Museum of Contemporary Art Africa) on 25 January 2022, which was the 105th anniversary of Nokutela's passing.
