Dai Miyamoto's life is turned upside down the day he discovers jazz. A former high school basketball player, Dai picks up a saxophone and begins practicing day and night, determined to become one of the greatest of all time. He leaves his sleepy hometown for the bustling nightclubs of Tokyo, but soon finds the life of a professional musician is not for the faint of heart. His passion eventually wins over the cocky but talented pianist Yukinori, and after Dai convinces his friend Shunji to learn the drums, they launch a new jazz trio whose rough sound contains a raw energy that quickly wins attention from local audiences. Kaminiida Midori is a member of "Pon Poko Pi", a three-person streamer group. The number of views of their videos has been dropping and Midori has been tasked by her friends to be the "test subject" of a surprise documentary project, "Let a cute girl approach a guy who looks like he has never dated anyone". One day, Midori approaches an unattractive man named Ishibashi Wataru, and begins dating him, but gradually feels guilty about it.

Nana is a young hostess of Nakajima Inn in a town by the sea. Nana and Shuntaro spend time together sharing each other's secrets, influencing each other and eventually, their frozen time starts moving.

Physicist Manabu Yukawa returns to Japan from America. Detective Kaoru Utsumi visits him and talks about a case. The case is about a popular girl in a town who disappeared and, several years later, her body was found. A suspect was arrested for her murder. That suspect was previously arrested for another girl's murder, but he was released due to a lack of evidence. Detective Shunpei Kusanagi investigated the prior murder case. The same suspect was then released due to a lack of evidence for the most recent murder case. The released man returned to his town, where everybody hated him. On the day of the autumn festival parade, the man was killed. Physicist Manabu Yukawa, Detective Kaoru Utsumi and Detective Shunpei Kusanagi work together on his case.

Diagnosed with dementia, Yuriko's mind quickly begins to fade. Yet, for her son Izumi, memories of the mother feel as vivid as when he lived them. One in particular, when he believed she had disappeared, haunts him terribly.

She is further entangled in the true circumstances of the incident due to the detective searching for the handgun and a suspicious man Kazunari who knows a secret about the handgun. Toko tries to throw herself into the whirlpool but then the lid is blown off her "past."

A university orders that old, decrepit Konoe Dormitory be rebuilt, to the opposition of the students who still occupy and maintain it. Movie version with additional scenes of the 2018 NHK's drama show.
