Documentary on the Greek history of the first half of the 20th century, from the Balkan wars until December events, with a special emphasis on the Asia Minor Catastrophe and its aftermath, through filmed documents by Joseph Hep, George Prokopiou, Achilleas Mandras, Philopimenas Finos, Gabriel Loggos and Kyriakos Kourbetis.

Antonis is the nephew of the good-hearted grocer Harilaos Toukouras. He is slothful and lazy but he is the only heir to his uncle, who considers marriage as the only solution to his nephew’s problems. That’s why he is looking for a bride for him by checking the newspaper ads. Due to a printing error, an ad for the sale of a sewing machine appears in the personal ads column, bringing uncle and nephew to the house of a serious and honest estate agent who has two single sisters.

After losing his son in WW2, a poor cobbler has become a drunkard and laughing stock of the whole neighborhood, besetting his daughter. When his daughter falls in love with a rich young man, he tries in vain to hide his passion from the young man's family...
