Jonas Elmer (born March 14, 1966 in Denmark) is a Danish film director, screenwriter and previously an actor. In 1988 he was a production assistant at the set of Family Business, starring Sean Connery.
Elmer graduated in direction at the National Film School of Denmark in 1995. His debut as a director came with the Danish film Let's Get Lost which won him a Robert and Bodil Award for Best Danish Film. Since then, he has directed the Danish feature films Monas verden and Nynne. He has also directed 21 episodes of the Danish sit-com Langt fra Las Vegas. He directed his first American feature film in 2008, New in Town, starring Renée Zellweger and Harry Connick, Jr, which was released in January 2009.

William's father is dead and his mother is mentally ill, so he lives with his uncle Nils. Nils is on early retirement, making money by buying things cheap and selling them high. He has also accumulated a large debt and city's gangsters are on him, demanding that he pays it full. Denmark, 1961. Bjørn, a middle-class boy in his early teens, wants to be accepted by Steen, a bullying peer of his with wealthy but freezingly cold parents. Bjørn's other good friend is Mulle, a cheerful and more childish working-class boy. All three seem friends at first, but gradually Steen starts pushing Mulle away while pulling the impressionable Bjørn with him towards more and more violence.
The boy Kim moves with his family from the countryside to a ghetto in a big city. He does not do too well in school, and that makes him an easy victim for the hard core bullies in the new school. When the group leader is moved to a private school, Kim is accepted in the gang - as long as he provides cigarettes for the other members. This of course leads to a confrontation with the school teachers, his family and eventually the gang members.
