Assad Fouladkar

History

Assad Fouladkar is a Lebanese television director of Iranian descent. He studied in Lebanon, and majored in film direction in Boston University, where he also made several documentaries. He then moved to Australia to work as an assistant director in a number of sit-coms. Assad then returned to Lebanon, now working as a film critic and university teacher. After he made his award-winning debut feature “Lama Hekiet Mariam” (When Mariam Told her Story) in 2002, he went on to focus his career on sit-coms, the most famous of which being “Ragel we Set Settat” (A Man and Six Women).

Ziyad and Maryam are a happy young couple in Lebanon, yet after three years of marriage they remain childless. Due to intense family pressure, they try everything they can but eventually learn that Maryam is infertile. Ziyad repeatedly reassures her of his undying love, but family and social pressure, particularly his evil, meddling mother, gradually poison their happy relationship until the love, enthusiasm and humour of their early days soon take a tragic turn.
