Spring 1941. A group of soldiers under the command of Lieutenant Alexis Komninou, protects the border at Fort Rupel and prepares to accept the German attack. The officer together with the soldier Kosmas Georgiou undertake a spying mission of the German forces in Bulgaria.

A dancer, Vera, is married to a nuclear scientist, Tasos. She suffers from multiple sclerosis and is in very bad condition. Bedridden Vera reads the biography of Saint Nektarios, patron saint of the island, whose life we follow in parallel. This strengthens the religious faith of both the heroine and her husband. A new diagnosis, however, changes the facts, and Vera, after a surgical operation, is completely cured.

A dark atmosphere pervades this film in true noir fashion. So does the feeling that our principals are trapped. They fight their way against economic forces and their status in life, and love might conquer all.
