The two sons of the Forsgården estate - Arne and Arthur - both fall for the same woman, the beautiful but poor Lea. She has on the other hand only eyes for Arne. After Arne during a fight thinks he has killed a log driver and flees, Lea finds herself in a difficult situation and is forced to marry Arthur.

The brothers of Yli-Koskela farm fall for the same woman. Then Aarne believes he has killed a man. Artturi sees the case and saves the man from drowning to the rapids. He takes advantage of the situation and tells the woman, Lea, that his brother is a murderer.

Sirkka feels she's doing the right thing when she kills her cruel stepfather. But there is a witness to the murder, the musician Eino. However, he helps Sirkka get rid of the dead body. Suspected by the police for the murder Sirkka flees abroad.

Young farmer Paavo's wife dies in childbirth, and their baby soon after. The wife's family claim back the dowry she brought to their marriage, but Paavo has already used most of it for improvements at the farm. Paavo's life starts going downhill as he resorts to drinking.

A thriller set in turn-of-the-century Helsinki, Stolen Death uses elements of German expressionism to tell the story of Finnish resistance fighters smuggling arms to overthrow the Tsarist occupiers of Finland. Tapiovaara stresses the divided loyalties of the Finnish bourgeoisie, torn between preserving their privileged economic position and taking a risky stand for an independent Finland. Stolen Death can be viewed as a thinly disguised protest against the rise of the fascist movement in Finland in the 1930s. Tapiovaara's allegorical indictment of class inequality and the suppression of free speech and political expression, coupled with his death at 28 fighting the Russians in the Winter War of 1939-1940, earned him almost a mythic status in Finland.

Fisherman Eerik Storm (Wilho Ilmari) is in danger of losing his home and agrees to get money to be piloted by smugglers (Axel Slangus, Uuno Aarto, Sven Relander, Armas Fredman, Berndt Lindahl). When the customs officers (Yrjö Somersalmi, Kosti Hypén, A. Virtanen) surprise the smugglers, a chase and a firefight ensue, in which the customs officers are confronted with water. By trading his life, Erik saves the customs officers. The film ends with an engagement party for Eerik and the pilot's eldest daughter Kirsti (Irja Lindström).

Servant Eeva promises to marry her childhood friend, tailor Aapeli, via letter, but withdraws after meeting the man. Though mostly preserved, the film is partially lost.
