National Theatre Live: Dick Whittington – A Pantomime for 2020
Writer
First staged at Lyric Hammersmith in 2018 and freshly updated for 2020, Ned Bennett directs this wild and inventive production and explores what it is like to come from a small town and arrive in a big city today. With a host of colourful characters, irreverent jokes, talking animals and popular songs this is Dick Whittington as never seen before.
The Snail and the Whale
Teacher (voice)
A half hour animated film for all the family based on the much-loved book written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler. The Snail and the Whale is the much loved classic that shows us a restless young snail who has ambitions to travel the world. The other snails think she should stay put, but she puts out a call for a “Lift wanted around the world”. Eventually her call is answered by a great big grey-blue humpback whale! She sets off with him across the seas. On their journey the snail and the whale discover towering icebergs and far-off lands, fiery mountains and golden sands. The snail is delighted by the wonderful world around her, until she realises how small it makes her feel.
Roundheads and Cavaliers
Alice
Alice is invited along to try historical reenactment for the first time, but finds herself caught between a Roundhead and a Cavalier in a battle for her affections.
Asparagus Tips
Asparagus Tips
A dinner party kicks off with the last guest to arrive, the oddly named Asparagus Tips. Upon introducing herself, we soon gather that her name comes from her asparagus hands. After the starter doesn’t go according to plan, she steps up to the plate, literally, and offers her tips for the party. A delicious delight that everyone wants more of, mostly at the disadvantage of poor Asparagus Tips.
Austentatious - Live at the Savoy
Herself
An entirely improvised comedy play, with a cast who conjure up a 'lost' Jane Austen novel, based on nothing more than a title suggested by the audience.
The 1st
Julia
One day in which to capture thirty seconds of film. What can possibly go wrong? Everything, if you believe your First Assistant Director is cursed.
Austentatious: Live at Leicester Square Theatre
Herself
Austentatious is an award-winning improvised comedy show in the style of the wondrous and witty Jane Austen. Every performance is made up on the spot based simply on a title suggested by the audience, so be it “Mansfield Shark”, “Darcy and Hutch” or “I Know What You Did Last Season”, no two shows are the same. Performed in period costume with live cello accompaniment, Austentatious is an immersive and hilarious treat for fans of Austen and improvised comedy alike.
