A lonely old potter saves the life of a young woman. She is grateful to him, but does not return the love he feels for her. However she feels obligated to marry him. In time, her former boyfriend finds her and takes a job working with the potter until he can convince her to run away with him.

Shortly after Korea gained independence from Japan (1945), North Koreans decide to extort civilians' property in the name of revolutionalizing its land and settle class struggles for proletariats. A man's jealousy of his friend's pure love for his girlfriend makes his friend sleep with a prostitute. But the friend agonizes over the depraved conduct and at last kills himself. He also feels guilty of his friend's death. However one day he meets the dead friend's girlfriend, and meeting her makes him convinced that it is not he, but she who leads the friend to death. He violates her chastity, kills a man who beat the friend before he died and turns himself to the police.
