This is the story of a young woman named Sita, who is engaged to a college professor. Rakesh, a spoilt rich brat comes across Sita one day and falls in love with her but Sita does not love him.

After his wife dies in childbirth as the result of an unsuccessful coup attempt by the bandit Razoulli (Amrish Puri), Gen. Khalid (Dharmendra) vows to avenge her death in this Bollywood thriller. But as he prepares to carry out his plan against Razoulli's son (Sunny Deol) years later, little does Khalid know that the two are connected by a long-buried secret. Vijay Choudhury lives a comfortable lifestyle with his wife, Laxmi, and step-brother, Ravi. Although Vijay and Laxmi have been married for several years, they have no children, and as a result Laxmi is shunned and humiliated in the entire town of Madhopur, despite of the fact the Vijay is the Chair of the Village Panchayat. After Ravi completes his M.A., he falls in love with the only daughter, Lalita, of Milawatram and Bandharlekha. Since the Choudhurys and Milawatram do not get along, both anticipate problems from both sides. They do overcome these problems, get married, and Lalita proves to Vijay and Laxmi that she is here to be one of the Choudhury family member. Soon Lalita and Laxmi both get pregnant, and it is here that the family will be subjected to a trauma as only one woman will be able to give birth to a child. Watch what happens when a son is born and resultant anxiety that will end up tearing this family apart.

Anuradha is an orphan who has found a mentor in kind-hearted Mahesh Kumar Gupta. She decides to re-locate to the city and be close to him in Bombay. After a few misadventures, and being rescued by a gallant Kishore, she settles down with Gupta, who would like her to marry his son, Raj Kumar. Anuradha has fallen in love with Kishore, but does not want to upset Gupta, and so she accordingly agrees to this marriage. Then Raj brings home a beautiful young woman named Usha, who he has fallen in love with and got married to. After a few temper tantrums, Gupta does accept Usha as his daughter-in-law. What Gupta does not know is that Usha has married Raj to inherit his vast wealth and estate and be close to her lover, Prem Kishen, who also has an on-going affair with Anuradha. Things get really complicated when Prem is killed, and Anuradha is arrested by the police for killing him.

Jwala Prasad is to marry the girl of his dreams. On the day of the marriage, she is dressed all in red, as is the tradition in India. Just before the wedding she slips off to meet her real lover. When Jwala finds out, be is so enraged at he turns into a monster and kills both the to-be bride and her male friend. The saga does not end here, and this monster continues to terrorize the region, first abducting brides dressed in red just before the wedding procession stops at a Mandir (temple).

A doctor comes across his past lover and her ailing husband who is at the last stage of cancer. When the man dies, the doctor is accused of murdering him.

Thakur Rajnath Singh Chouhan opens a can of worms when he announces that he is going to marry a prostitute by the name of Tulsi. His mother will not even consider Tulsi as a daughter-in-law, and would prefer that he marry Sanjukta. Tulsi convinces him that he should marry the woman of his mother's choice, which he eventually does. Thereafter Tulsi gives birth to a baby boy, Ajay, and passes away. Sanjukta raises Ajay as her own child, even after the passing away of Rajnath, and even after giving birth to Pratap. Ajay is given the entire responsibility of the estate, while Pratap squanders money on courtesans and alcohol. Sanjukta trusts Ajay, until one day when a villager complains to her that Ajay has got his daughter, Geeta, pregnant; additionally she also finds out that Ajay has been misappropriating money, and also owes money to a prostitute named Leelabai, the very woman who sold Tulsi to Rajnath.

Haridwar-based Neelkanth Pandey and Shambhu Nath get their children, Bhagwantiprasad and Parvati respectively, married. Whille Shambhu re-locates to live in Bombay, Neelkanth continues to reside in the same residence. Years later both children have grown up, so Neelkanth invites the Naths to finalize the nuptials. Very soon the Pandeys will face humiliation and ridicule at the hands of Parvati, who now calls herself Pamela, and Shambhu, who wants his daughter to marry someone sophisticated and wealthy, while Parvati is in love with a singer named Rocky. Bhagwanti is determined to fulfill his parents' wishes and decides to stay wed to Parvati, re-locates to Bombay, to try and woo her back - with results that will end up changing his life forever.
