The first play in a trilogy by Arnold Wesker. The Hungarian-Jewish immigrant Sarah Kahn firmly holds her family in London's East End. She is also the center of power for the socialist engagement of the family, which is being tested by the events of Eastern Europe after the war.

Youth criminals Fredriksson and Bergström are taken to the police station on suspicion of robbery and manslaughter. Fredriksson breaks down immediately and he acknowledges his guilt for what he has done. But the police also would like him to admit to something he did not do. Bergström is not possible to crack. He succeeds without difficulty to manipulate his environment and his psychopathic traits becomes even clearer as the hearing progress.
Åsa-Nisse på semester
Åsa-Nisse is visited by cousin Doris from the United States. Nisse, Klabbarparn and Doris will travel to Stockholm, but Nisse and Klabbarparn lose track of Doris, who get into a hands of a Casanova. Nisse and Klabbarparn instead ends up at the Nordic Museum, where Åsa-Nisse turns out to have unexpected qualities in the art of imitating a mannequin. After that they had found each other is Doris robbed and it leads to a wild brawl that it sparkles and sputters on.

Christer is a teenager who prefers to spend his time on motorcycles instead of his studies which doesn't impress his father. There is also a youth motorcycle gang terrorising the local girls but Christer doesn't dare to stand up to them, leading to his humiliation. One day he comes into contact with a professional speedway racer who takes him under his wing.

Jompa is unemployed - and not keen on getting a job. He still lives with his parents who are tired of his attitude about employment and regular hours. Jompa and his friends spend their time at nightclubs, cafés and doing petty crimes. While playing poker, Jompa becomes indebted to the criminal Kalle Lund. Of course, Jompa is unable to pay, but Kalle gives him a tip: an old fetcher has always a lot of money at home, and if Jompa could get his hands on the money, his troubles would disappear...
