The card was originally headlined by a rematch between champion Patrício Freire and Daniel Weichel for the Bellator Featherweight Championship. The pair previously met in June 2015 at Bellator 138 with Freire winning by knockout. On November 12, it was announced Freire had to withdraw due to a knee injury. The main event instead featured a match between Noad Lahat and Jeremiah Labiano. The card also featured Dutch kickboxing standout Denise Kielholtz's second MMA fight.

Bellator 175: Rampage vs. King Mo 2 was held on March 31, 2017 at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois. The event will air live in prime time on Spike TV. The event was headlined by Heavyweight bout between former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Quinton Jackson against former Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Champion Muhammed Lawal. At the weigh ins, Emmanuel Sanchez missed the 146-pound featherweight limit, coming in at 149.5 pounds. The fight was changed to a catchweight.

Bellator 164: Koreshkov vs. Lima 2 was held on November 10, 2016 at the Menora Mivtachim Arena in Tel Aviv, Israel. The event was headlined by two of the world's top Welterweights. Bellator champion Andrey Koreshkov met former champion Bellator Douglas Lima in a rematch in the main event. Koreshkov won the welterweight title with a unanimous decision victory over Lima at Bellator 140. He defended the belt earlier this year with a dominant win over former UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson at Bellator 153. Lima won the vacant welterweight title with a second-round TKO of Rick Hawn at Bellator 117. After a lengthy layoff, he fought Koreshkov and lost via unanimous decision. After his loss to Koreshkov, he was out for a full year, but came back in July to defeat Paul Daley at Bellator 158.

UFC on Fox: Lawler vs. Brown (also known as UFC on Fox 12) was a mixed martial arts event held on July 26, 2014 at SAP Center in San Jose, California. During weigh-ins, both Brown and Lima missed weight for their fights against Lawler and Jędrzejczyk, respectively. They were supposed to be fined 20% of their salary but both fighters weren't fined due to a commission error. Brown weighed in at 172.5 lbs but wasn't allowed by the California State Athletic Commission to weigh in again, while Lima initially came in at 117 lbs and only dropped to 116.5 lbs and she was also denied another try

The event was headlined by the anticipated rematch between mixed martial arts legends Maurício Rua and Dan Henderson. Henderson won their first encounter back in November 2011 at UFC 139 via unanimous decision in a bout lauded by many MMA pundits as the Fight of the Year for 2011 and one of the best bouts in the history of the UFC.
