Ki-dong Woo

General Wang-gun marches on the capitol and overthrows the usurper Ku-jin who had slain the last king of the Shilla Dynasty. Wang-gun becomes king and begins a new era in Korean History--the Koryo Dynasty.

Simon, a painter, regains the use of his hands thanks to therapy administered by Ren. Later, when Simon is kidnapped by communists and forced to paint a portrait of Stalin, Ren again helps him by assisting in his escape. Simon's wife, however, is less than pleased at their growing friendship and becomes determined to keep them apart.

A writer who was disabled during the Korean War (1950-1953) is now contributing a serial to a newspaper. His wife, who once adored him, is tempted by a young man she happens to know.
