The Cherry Orchard
Sound Designer
The New York Times recently called Dmitry Krymov “one of the world’s finest theatermakers.” For this new adaptation of The Cherry Orchard, the world-renowned Russian director collaborates with the Wilma’s acclaimed HotHouse Acting Company to reimagine one of theater’s enduring masterworks. What is it like to lose your home? The Cherry Orchard centers around a Russian family grappling with the potential foreclosure of their estate, and a community in transition as the old makes way for the new. Volleyballs and sunflower seeds fly, while a giant mechanical train station flipboard tells the future … plus more surprises await in Krymov’s inventive re-interpretation. One family is in danger of losing their home, their comfort, and their power. What comes next … and who will profit?

Greg Mitchell
A group of families on a tropical holiday discover that the secluded beach where they are staying is somehow causing them to age rapidly – reducing their entire lives into a single day.
Street Scene
Willie Maurrant
The opera takes place on the doorstep of a tenement on the East Side of Manhattan on two brutally hot days in 1946. The story focuses on two plotlines: the romance between Rose Maurrant and her neighbor Sam Kaplan; and on the extramarital affair of Rose's mother, Anna, which is eventually discovered by Rose's irritable father, Frank. The show portrays the ordinary romances, squabbles and gossips of the neighbors, as the mounting tensions involving the Maurrant family eventually build into a tragedy of epic proportions. Broadcast on BBC Two on New Years Day, 1993, this production was performed by the English National Opera and conducted by James Holmes.
