The film follows two student cinematographers who, as the war approaches Moscow, refuse to be evacuated and instead volunteer to be front-line cameramen capturing the horrors of war and heroism of the soviet soldiers. At the same time, we witness another storyline taking place in the US. After the premiere screening of the already completed documentary “Moscow Strikes Back”, one of the members of the Academy Awards selection committee is trying to persuade his fellow colleagues to establish a new category of Best Documentary in the upcoming Oscars event.
Petya is a representative of the carefree Moscow youth, and in one day he goes through a test of friendship, love experiences and, finally, an awareness of the need for change.

We meet the protagonist and his friends at a key moment in one adventure, which brings about a fateful acquaintance: he falls in love with a girl who offers herself to him, and at the same time the prospect of fast profit. In love affairs there is everything but love.
The average Moscow taxi driver starts suspecting that there is something wrong with his clients, who keep going about the city. Mysterious destinations, strange motions, hysterical laughter, puzzling placement of the black bundle. The protagonist is intrigued which leads to an unpleasant discovery. It turns out that the world has long been taken over by “psyons” – psychological operators controlling human mind.
The plot is based on the story of a village demented youth. He is a local fool, living in a poor hut with a sick mother. His neighbors are the Jewish family of the local blacksmith Mendel, and he is secretly in love with his youngest daughter Sonya. When the war starts, the Germans quickly occupy the village. Panic begins among the Jews, as well as in the Mendel family, and they try to equip a shelter at home, which the young man becomes aware of. Hoping to get the blacksmith's house, he reveals this secret to the Germans, but the German military police take him to their headquarters. The protagonist finds Sonya in his garden and wants to save her life, not imagining what difficulties this decision will turn out to be for everyone.
