Based on true events of the late 60s in Italy, poet, playwright and myrmecologist Aldo Braibanti is prosecuted and sentenced to prison for the love he shares with his barely-of-age pupil and friend, Ettore. Amidst a chorus of voices of accusers, supporters and a largely hypocritical public, a single committed journalist takes on the task of piecing together the truth, between secrecy and desire, facing suspicion and censorship in the process.

Sandro is very polite yet a little unsure of himself. Luciano on the other hand is bold and sharp but has a mysterious dark side to him. They meet at a restaurant where they both work as waiters. Like many of their peers, Sandro and Luciano have the feeling Italy has little to offer and decide to seek their fortune together in Cuba, the new frontier of hope where anything is still possible.

Once released, Giorgio obsessively pursues his dream of becoming a "respectable" citizen, even if the way is paved with larceny, pimping, drug-dealing, rape, heist, and murder...
