History

Robby the Robot is a prop originally created to be a supporting character in the 1956 MGM film Forbidden Planet. By far the most advanced robot prop to appear in a movie to that point, Robby's construction represented 7% of the film's entire budget. Robby has subsequently made appearances in more than 30 movies and TV shows, and has become iconic in on-screen Science Fiction.
