Nutcracker Delights: English National Ballet
The Sugar Plum Fairy
English National Ballet has been performing a version of Nutcracker every year since 1950. In 2020, the tradition lives on. Join Clara and her enchanted Nutcracker on a hot air balloon ride to the Land of Snow, and enjoy iconic scenes featuring the Sugar Plum Fairy, Snowflakes, Flowers and more. As London moved into Tier 4 COVID-19 restrictions with the subsequent cancellation of all scheduled performances of Nutcracker Delights, the Company decided to film and share a recording of this specially-adapted production with its audience as a thank you at the close of its 70th Anniversary year. Nutcracker Delights was filmed on 18 and 19 December at the London Coliseum by Michael Nunn and William Trevitt.
Genesis
Dancer
Crystal Ballet’s Genesis is a work telling the stages of a relationship of two lovers, split into four movements danced by some of the world's great classical ballet dancers Sarah Lamb and Steven McRae, award winning Daria Klimentova and Vadim Muntagirov , the wonderful Erina Takahashi and Esteban Berlanga , and talented star couple Alina Cojocaru and Johan Kobborg, choreographed by two leading choreographers, Kim Brandstrup and Ernst Meisner.
Creature
Marie
Based on the acclaimed English National Ballet production, choreographed by Akram Khan and directed by Academy Award-winning director Asif Kapadia (Senna, Amy, The Warrior), Creature is a genre-busting collaboration that fuses film and contemporary dance. In a dilapidated former Arctic research station, Creature (Jeffrey Cirio) is unknowingly enlisted by a military brigade into an experimental programme. Creature meets and falls in love with Marie (Erina Takahashi), a cleaner who shows him kindness and compassion; together they dream of escape. This vivid cinematic experience is a beautiful, tragic tale of an outsider’s search for belonging, the insatiable desires of the powerful, and the enduring hope found in human connection and compassion.
