History

The chimp lives at a primate shelter in Palm Springs, he has suffered from Type 2 diabete. He only had a wife and his son, Jeeter, lives in the same oasis. Cheeta starred in 12 Tarzan movies. He also appeared in other chimp roles, including Ramona the Chimp in “Bela Lugosi Meets a Brooklyn Gorilla” in 1952 and Chee-Chee in “Doctor Dolittle” with Rex Harrison in 1967, his last role. In retirement, he eats a lot of fruit – brunch yesterday consisted of apples, bananas and peaches – lounges by the pool, watches TV and if his MySpace page is to be believed, listens to his favorite group, The Monkees. He also makes abstract paintings that have raked in as much as $10,000 at auction. The money goes to primate shelters. Cheeta has tried and failed seven time to get his own star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame.
