The event was headlined by a featherweight bout between rising stars Max Holloway and Charles Oliveira. Neil Magny replaced Rick Story to face Erick Silva in a welterweight bout. There was another welterweight bout between Josh Burkman and Patrick Cote and two lightweight bouts featuring Chad Laprise against Francisco Trinaldo and Olivier Aubin-Mercier against Tony Sims. A women's strawweight fight between Valerie Letourneau and Maryna Moroz also took place in the event.

UFC 83 was the UFC's first event in Canada. It was headlined by UFC Welterweight Champion Matt Serra and UFC Interim Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre in a match to unify the championship.

UFC 80: Rapid Fire was a mixed martial arts (MMA) event held by the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), that took place on January 19, 2008 at the Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle, England. Sean Sherk was originally slated to fight but tested positive for steroids. With the lightweight championship vacated, the Penn-Stevenson bout was altered to be for the undisputed championship.

The main event was a rematch from a UFC 58 fight in which Fisher was a late replacement for Stouts opponent, and he had to cut a lot of water weight just to fight. Stout won their first fight by split decision.

The Ultimate Fighter 3 Finale was a mixed martial arts event held by the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) on June 24, 2006. Featured were the finals from The Ultimate Fighter 3 in both the Middleweight and Light Heavyweight divisions as well as a main event between Kenny Florian and Sam Stout. During the event Randy Couture was inducted in to the UFC Hall of Fame and the return of Jens Pulver was announced.

UFC 58: USA vs Canada was a mixed martial arts event held by the Ultimate Fighting Championship on March 4, 2006.Five of the seven Canadian fighters featured, Icho Larenas, Sam Stout, Mark Hominick, Georges St. Pierre, and David Loiseau, were at the time champions in the Canadian TKO Major League MMA promotion. Each fight featured an American fighter against a Canadian fighter.
